When students are accepted into the PharmD program at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, they agree to participate in the program at a specified campus. The new student commits to this campus when he or she signs a letter of intent. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy admits the maximum number of PharmD applicants that its facilities can accommodate each year.

A transfer from one campus to another is only permitted in rare cases under certain conditions. The School recognizes that it may at times be in the best interest of a student and the School to grant a transfer request. These conditions must be met before a request will be granted:

  1. The maximum enrollment for the class at the campus that the student would be transferring to has not been reached or exceeded.
  2. The departure from the campus that the student is currently attending will not cause the number of students at that campus to drop below its enrollment minimum.
  3. The student that is requesting the transfer must complete at least one semester in the PharmD program prior to the transfer.
  4. The student that is requesting the transfer has circumstances that have arisen after he or she began the PharmD program that represent a strong reason to grant the transfer request.

Examples of situations that may be considered for campus transfer are:

  • Student must be close to one city for optimal health care.
  • Student’s family situation changed, and spouse or other family member could not continue to take care of student’s child.

Examples of campus transfer requests that will likely not be approved:

  • Student owns a home in another city.
  • Student is married and spouse lives in another city.

Campus Transfer Request Procedure

  1. The student requesting a campus assignment transfer must submit a letter to the Senior Director of Student Affairs, requesting the transfer and providing an explanation for the request.
  2. A committee composed of the Senior Director of Student Affairs, Regional Associate Dean Asheville Campus, Assistant Dean for Experiential Curriculum, and Associate Dean for Professional Education will meet to discuss the student’s request for campus transfer and make a decision to approve or deny a campus transfer request.
  3. Any appeal of the decision must be submitted to the Dean of the Eshelman School of Pharmacy within five business days of the decision.
  4. Transfers will not be allowed during a semester. If a transfer request is granted, the transfer will take place beginning with the start of the next semester.
