The experiential course director stewards the remediation policy and process for each experiential course. Determination of a remediation opportunity is made between the experiential course director and preceptor for situations in which a student can successfully meet learning outcomes in an amount of time shorter than repeating the entire experiential course.

A failure in an experiential course that qualifies for remediation is listed as Incomplete on the transcript until remediation is complete. The course grade is changed to Pass if/when the student successfully remediates the experience. A student that does not successfully complete remediation will receive a failing grade for the course and be referred to the Scholastic Achievement and Progressions Committee.

The remediation plan will include specific objectives, activities, and a timeline for completion as discussed between the preceptor, student, and experiential course director. The remediation plan may include remediation of didactic content knowledge. The Office of Experiential Programs will execute all portions of the remediation process, including but not limited to scheduling and requirements to successfully remediate the experience.

Students must successfully pass all Immersion experiences prior to beginning Advanced Immersion experiences.

Students who fail an experiential course and do not qualify for remediation will be referred to the Scholastic Achievement and Progressions Committee for review and further discussion. This committee will make a final determination regarding the student’s grade for the current experience and make recommendations regarding the repeating of the experiential course. The Office of Experiential Programs will manage and execute student success planning for all students who fail an experiential course, in accordance with recommendations from the Scholastic Achievement and Progressions Committee.

Students may remediate no more than two experiential courses throughout the curriculum. If a student remediates more than two experiential courses, the Scholastic Achievement and Progressions Committee will evaluate the student’s overall academic performance, including didactic courses and previous remediations, to decide on the student’s ability to continue in the program. The committee may consider both experiential and didactic course performance and assessments when making decisions about the student’s progression in the program.
